Neutral Sophistication
There are few properties that cause our bottom jaws to plummet but this is exactly what the Radnor Place property from Savills’ Mayfair and Notting Hill branches did. With the guide price in mind, you would expect to get a reasonable amount of square-footage, even in this prestigious area of London – and you do, with a master suite, three further bedrooms, en suites, reception and dining rooms, spacious kitchen, cloakroom and laundry space along with a media room and study area. This amount of space might be befitting the guide price, but that’s not the reason why the property has caught our eye.
Unsurprisingly, it’s the décor and the flawless interior of the property that has captured our attention. The theme of simple walls contrasted against various wooden accents carries throughout the entire property, with some rooms taking on a more minimalist feel than others.
The kitchen is a prime example of this minimalism, with glossy white cupboards and black walls acting in part as mirrors, extending the space beyond what is actually there. Though not terribly practical, there is a distinct absence of kitchen appliances or utensils from the metal counter tops, and this adds to the clean, fresh and slightly austere appearance of the kitchen – and we love that!
The space between the kitchen and the dining area is broken up by a change in textures – the light wood floors flow onwards, but a contrasting dark wood table, dark brown suede-covered seats and a big, natural wood-framed wall mirror adds a touch of humanity to the overall area – here, the home begins to feel like it could be lived in.
A similar sentiment is echoed upstairs in the bedrooms and bathrooms. The sleek fixtures in the bathroom are definitely bespoke – they fit the space too well to be anything else – and the bedroom again carries this minimalist feeling, except when it comes to the bed area. The floors, wardrobes and even the light fixtures emanate restraint, but the bed and its dressing are a luxurious mix of neutral colours and textures, with lots of pretty cushions and artwork hanging above. This is something that wouldn’t be hard to replicate in your own home.
Whilst the success of this property is most definitely in its lustrous finish, it is these little touches of indulgence in an otherwise plain, minimalist space that make all the difference. By putting knick-knacks away in our own homes, we can draw attention to the accent pieces that we’re really proud of, be it our beds, sofas or a fabulous piece of artwork – it’s a cost effective way of living in the light of these inspirational properties.
