An Explosion of Colour: Give your Home a 2014-Ready Colour Scheme
Now that the disappearance of summer has left many of us longing for the end of 2013 altogether – and with dreams of a fresh new year and a fresh start providing a warming glow that’ll just about get us through the gloomier months – it’s only natural for our attention to turn to the colour trends on the horizon.
In this post, we’ll take a look at the upcoming influences on home décor, sneaking a peek at how the most on-trend properties will show off their stylishness in the year ahead:
The colours of 2014 and how to work them
Pantone’s Colour Planner Spring/Summer 2014 reveals seven main colour palettes that’ll burst into our homes in the new year; here we explore the best, from the subtle to the extraordinary.
Inspiration first comes in the form of Pantone’s palette Natural Dimension. Beiges, sandy shades and smoky greys make up a super-stylish colour scheme. Pantone describes this look as “the colours of ruins that tell us stories from the past.” Be inspired by fossils, rust, and weather-beaten buildings. Rustic-looking tiles could become the perfect flooring for this spectrum, while distressed wood furniture is a must. Bring in outdoors in with unexpected centrepieces – think arty twisted branches, shells and stones.
Another palette, entitled Both Sides Now, looks to the past – or rather a modern view of the past, with rich sepia tones, glowing yellows and antique white. Work it with old-style lamps, calligraphy-style printed fabrics and muted colours.
The Flux colour palette brings the springtime home with bright shades in unexpected places. The duck-egg blue kitchens from Wren Kitchens provide the perfect way to recreate the look, while walls painted in shades of lush green, blossom pink and sunshine yellow will work the palette into the rest of the home.
Finally, the palette aptly named Turned on its Head brings an element of fun and fantasy to home décor with vivid pink, red and orange colour schemes bravely clashing and coordinating to challenge preconceived ideas of what goes together. Embrace the style by creating a bedroom masterpiece from bright bedding and brighter cushions in mismatched shades. This formula works just as well with clashing patterns; be inspired here.
Wonderful colour palettes – my fav being natural/rustic shades, like you said this can look so stylish and chic and the rustic hues make a space so inviting and homely. Add in a touch of gold maybe in form of a mirror or a delicately gold edged piece of furniture, this look will be stunning.
