Domino Magazine – Say it isn’t so!
What can I say except that I am in shock and sad to hear and say that I’ve just found out the Domino magazine (one of my favorites) will no long be publishing issues. I found out through a friend who emailed me on Facebook and I had to see it for myself, so I went the Domino magazine website and there is was, front and center, their statement:
dear readers It is with very heavy hearts that we say farewell. Over the last 4 years, in 28 issues, we have done our best to create a great magazine. We started with a real idea—that style is for everyone—and tried to carry it out with stories that provide inspiration and empower you to act on it. From your tremendous response, we know that we were onto something. In this tough economy, however, we simply weren’t able to get the advertising support we needed. As domino evolved, we never lost sight of our original democratic premise. Looking back at the manifesto we published in the premiere issue, the first tenet of domino is still the truest: Home should make you happy. We hope we have played a part in making this come true for you. Love,
All the editors of domino
I don’t know what to say, Domino was THE magazine i checked every month to see when the newest issue would be out and really couldn’t wait till the next issue. I’m sad that these economic times are affecting the good things in life. I really hope that it turns around sooner than later and we don’t lose more. I know a magazine is just a magazine, but to me it represents so much more. There is so much that goes into putting this together, the photographers, editors etc. The labour of love that was put behind the magazine, you could tell by the writers, they really enjoyed what they did. The beautiful images and photographs by photographers. The wonderful and fabulous finds you wouldn’t have discovered before, helping local and talented designers. And so on. According to Mediaweek, March will the last issue and the website will be discontinued.
I hope that when times get better (and they will, let’s keep positive) that Domino will re-open it’s doors.
I decided to do a search to see other design blogs postings and their readers reactions, it’s quite incredible that so many people out there are saddened by this news. Here are some reactions:
