Start Your Skin Care Routine with Kiehl’s

Have you heard of Kiehl’s yet? Well I just recently discovered them a few months ago… and I’m officially obsessed with their products.

I will admit I’ve not really had a proper skin care routine in years.  I’ve used a daily moisturizer with SPF for as long as I can remember but I’ve not been loyal to one brand.   I’ve been more conscious these days of ingredients and wanted something for my sensitive skin.  I put it out to the Universe that I’d like to find a product line that will help with my overall dry skin, redness and preventive damage and aging… and that has natural ingredients (as best as possible).

I’ve walked by the Kiehl’s store over time but I didn’t really know anything about their concept or products.  I happen to be with a good friend and we visited the local store so she could refill her Midnight Recovery Concentrate.  I was approached by a one of the skin care experts and I said I had never been in their store before.  She asked if I’d like to have a consultation…  Now normally I would say no, but I’m in a skin care store and I asked the Universe… so I couldn’t say no and was quite excited at the prospect of discovering something new.

I learned a lot and there are  a lot of products to choose from.  I like the idea they sit down with you, check your skin (with these tab-like appliques) and discuss what issues you are experiencing, what you’d like in your skin care and then offer solutions.  She proceeded to apply each product gently and explain what they do.  I will say it was nice to be pampered and the products felt light and I didn’t experience any irritation.  Which for me is quite nice as I do break out or experience irritated skin on occasion with different products.  It was a very pleasant experience.  Once finished, I will say my skin did look much better.  It was much more even, brighter and moisturized.

I walked away with several samples to try at home.  I thought this was the most genius idea as I’m the type of person who has spent so much money over the years on different products from skin, body and hair and only to find out they do not work and wasted my hard earned money.

Their products are pretty well price for products with a lot of natural ingredients.  Not all products are 100% natural of course but they clearly state on their website the ingredients and how much of it is natural and what is in the products and it’s purpose.  For example, one of my favorite products, the Midnight Recovery Concentrate is 99.8% naturally-derived and paraben-free oil for face (as per their website).  So if you are concerned like me, you can definitely review their products and go through the ingredient list and percentages.  Everyone’s personal preferences will be different of course.

Samples – This is my favorite part of course, buying before trying.  They’re motto is by word of mouth promotion and sampling.  What a genius concept.  In addition with each purchase, they provide you with three samples to try other products you may be interested in.

My First Purchase – I decided to go with one of their starter kits.  This way I could try a selection of their basic products at a an affordable price to see how my skin would like the product and if I saw any results.  I think kits vary but mine included the following:

• Ultra Facial Cleanser – What it is: A mild formula that contains a sugar-derived glycoside foaming agent to thoroughly cleanse skin and remove makeup without over-drying or stripping skin of its natural oils. Who it’s for: Anyone who wants to dissolve excess oil, dirt and debris while maintaining skin’s natural balance. What it does: Apricot kernel oil moisturizes and softens the skin while helping retain clarity and suppleness; avocado oil helps restore skin’s natural moisture; and squalane, Kiehl’s signature ingredient, keeps skin extra soft and supple. How to use: Apply a small amount to clean fingertips then gently massage into damp facial areas in upward, circular motions. Avoid the immediate eye area. Rinse thoroughly or remove excess with a damp wash cloth.
• Ultra Facial Toner – What it is: A mild yet effective toner that helps refine surface texture while providing the ideal preparation for your moisturizer. Who it’s for: All skin types. What it does: It’s pH-balanced for optimal comfort and won’t over-dry or strip skin of its natural oils. Apricot kernel oil moisturizes and softens skin while helping it retain clarity and suppleness; avocado oil, known to be the most moisturizing of any fruit oil, helps restore the natural moisture of the skin; and squalane, a signature Kiehl’s ingredient, restores skin’s natural moisture balance to keep it extra soft and supple. How to use: After cleansing, moisten a cotton pad with the toner and apply to the face, avoiding the immediate eye area. Follow with your moisturizer.
• Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm – Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm is a 24-hour daily facial moisturizer that deeply infuses and preserves hydration for dry to very dry skin, leaving it instantly more comfortable, softer and soothed. It’s formulated with Edelweiss flower extract, which is known to thrive in the high altitudes of the Swiss Alps and strengthens the skin’s barrier function to lock in hydration for even the driest skin types. It also contains antarcticine, which is sourced from sea glaciers and helps skin replenish itself with moisture, and glycerine, which helps draw moisture into skin to help provide lasting hydration.
• (Note I have very dry skin so this worked for me, they also have a regular moisturizer or a cream for those with normal skin)

STARTER KIT OPTIONS

They have so many more products to choose from and I already have a few favorites that are on my next shopping list for sure!  I expecially like the best sellers (they’re best sellers for  reason as I love them too).  Here is my current wish list of the next products I’ll be purchasing.  I’ve sampled these and I really like the results so they are next to add to my daily beauty routine.

There are so many products to discover and explore which I can’t wait.  They have serums, masks, anti-aging, hair care, lip care, pet care and a men’s line and yes, there’s even more.  The fun will continue in trying out new things.  I’ll write up a follow-up post for my next round of purchases and results.

I have definitely noticed a difference.  My skin isn’t perfect of course and I’m sure it will take time for it to repair as I use the prodcuts.  But I will say my skin feels soft and smooth and is in much better shape than before.
